32 CEO of Ohio National Financial Services About Barbara Turner Barbara A. Turner is president and chief executive officer of Cincinnati-based Ohio National Financial Services, Inc., a leading provider of insurance products and financial services since 1909. Turner is the first woman and person of color to serve in this role. Ohio National currently has 41.2 billion in assets under management and over $180 billion of issued life insurance in force. Turner’s prior roles in the company include vice chair, chief operating officer, chief administrative officer, chief compliance officer, and head of the annuities strategic business unit. She joined the Ohio National family in 1997 as operations director for The O.N. Equity Sales Company (ONESCO), the company’s affiliated broker/dealer, and became president of ONESCO in 2005 and president and chief executive officer of ONESCO in 2012. Under her leadership, ONESCO’s client assets grew to over $8 billion, and the company was recognized as a top broker/dealer in the nation by Financial Planning Magazine. She also reactivated the company’s dormant retail registered investment advisory firm, O.N. Investment Management Company (ONIMCO) and served as its president and chief executive officer. Turner developed and implemented the strategies and infrastructure for the record growth ONESCO and ONIMCO enjoy today. Earlier in her career, Turner served as operations, trading and systems manager for Reynolds DeWitt Securities. Turner’s leadership extends beyond her role at Ohio National. She serves on the board of directors of The Christ Hospital Health Network, Cincinnati Regional USA Chamber of Commerce, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Cincinnati Women’s Executive Forum and the Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. She is board vice chair of LL Global Inc. and board chair of United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Her professional memberships include the Executive Leadership Council, Cincinnati Business Committee (CBC), Commercial Club and Women’s Capital Club (WCC). “Philanthropy is important to me,” says Turner. “I believe everyone has something of unique value to give. I am passionate about giving back. This passion is fulfilled through my many mentoring, sponsoring and volunteer activities. I have a special interest in mentoring at-risk teenagers and single moms.” Turner has earned widespread recognition throughout her career. Recent distinctions include the Cincinnati Business Courier C-Suite Award (current finalist CEO category), Savoy Magazine’s Most Influential Black Directors, Cincinnati Business Courier C-Suite Award (chief operating officer category), APD National Philanthropy Honorary Chair, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College Honorary Degree, Cincinnati Business Courier Women Who Mean Business Award, inaugural Women Inspiring Strength & Hope (WISH) Award, Linkage Women in Leadership Executive Impact Award, Venue Magazine Women of Influence Award, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Making Black History Award, and Ohio National Financial Services Paul E. Martin Community Service Award. Turner has been named one of the nation’s Top 50 Women in Wealth Management by Wealth Manager Magazine and a Career Woman of Achievement by the Cincinnati YWCA. A Cincinnati native, Turner attended the University of Cincinnati. She is a graduate of the SIFMA/Wharton Securities Industry Institute and was the first woman in the country to complete the FINRA/Wharton Certified Regulatory Compliance Professional Program. She and her husband Daman have three adult children.
