“ “ CEO Today USA Awards 2019 www.ceotodaymagazine.com 13 What would you say have been Keysight’s most significant achievements in the past 12 months? What are you most proud of? Our most significant recent achievements revolve around the success of our customers and their ecosystems, with 5G being a great example. We made the commitment to be first in 5G back in 2014 before the term 5G was even in common usage. We started our core technology development, and we engaged with standards bodies and university researchers to understand the challenges that would have to be overcome. Most importantly, we’ve collaborated with nearly three dozen leading companies in the 5G space, including Qualcomm, Nokia, and Verizon, to enable the entire ecosystem to accelerate global 5G deployments. Our participation in the 3GPP standards organization has been key to this process, and we are proud to have made over 300 contributions to the standards, to advance performance, reliability, and interoperability. You can see the impact of our 5G commitment in the many press announcements with our customers and from our financial results, where we’ve highlighted the growth in revenue from 5G solutions. This 5G success that has manifested so clearly in 2019 flowed from a lot of prior work and is very gratifying to see. I’m also proud of Keysight’s recognition as a great place to work, for example via Forbes’ Most Just Companies list and Fortune’s 100 Best Workplaces for Diversity. Attracting and developing great employees is very important to me, as is our commitment to corporate social responsibility, which includes giving back to the communities where we operate and supporting STEM efforts around the world. In 2019 Keysight helped sponsor the renowned FIRST® Robotics Competition for teams of high school students. Keysight also launched the IoT Innovation Challenge, where college students worldwide competed in innovating low-power IoT solutions for smart land and smart water. And for our investors, I’m proud of Keysight’s selection into the S&P 500, and our recognition for delivering a total shareholder return in the What is Keysight’s role in the world of emerging and leading-edge technologies? Keysight is at the heart of innovation processes in key technology areas such as 5G, connected and autonomous vehicles, E-Mobility, Internet of Things (IoT), and next-generation networking for data centers and the cloud. All these technologies require breakthrough approaches to realize their potential, and Keysight’s expertise is critical to the overall process, from design simulation to prototype validation, to manufacturing test, to the optimization of fielded products and production networks. In communications, we’ve seen how the transition from 3G to 4G led to an explosion in the number of mobile devices and applications. 5G is now poised to propel another revolution in mobile connectivity. This requires the use of new, complex technologies, and crucially, the ability to test those technologies even as they are being invented. That is why we partner with leaders across the 5G ecosystem––with chipset companies, device designers, network equipment manufacturers, and service providers––to make sure that as they push the boundaries of technology innovation, we are there pushing the boundaries of measurement solutions to validate and accelerate their designs. In automotive, our customers are pioneering new approaches to E-Mobility, longer-range and higher-resolution radar and LIDAR sensors for autonomous driving, and the many data connections required to achieve a truly connected car. In IoT, we’re seeing a shift to more mission-critical applications that require higher reliability, lower latency, and secure connections. Data centers are going through a transformation with the demand for ever-higher data capacity driving changes throughout the system, from the optical and electrical hardware connections to the software protocols that implement the network functionality.
